Short Bio
The Beginning
I started as a drummer at the age of 16, a bit late I guess and basically self-taught, I was part of a Catholic parish group and then of the regional representation of the episcopal state of Lara for at least two years, I made my foray out of the church in two commercial projects with a respected regional artist in a pop-rock experiment and other bands of covers.
It is between my 18 and 20 where I started inside the national rock circuit with a band called Enola Gray, with which I had a limited number of concerts in the city and recorded an EP of 6 songs, then I became a member of the band Vimana with the former members of Sliver; Claudio Sánchez (vocalist and Guitar player of Limpiacabezales) and Rodolfo Tarff (Pharmacy vocalist and Guitar player) among the most outstanding… we had the opportunity to record an EP of 8 songs and open the tour of the Caramelos de Cianuro in our city for their album Harakiri City.. After the separation of Vimana, I was invited to join Murky Claw with which I also had limited number of concerts and recorded a demo of 4 tracks, are also formed in turn Limpiacabezales of which I am a co-founder in the company of Claudio Sanchez, and Pharmacy to which I joined years later.. At the same time, I was also part of countless bands of versions or covers of my city, among the most outstanding I can name Anatomica, Norton, Daniel Verdi, Eclipse, Kuartzo, MP4, Carbono 14, BV10 and many more within the big list.
The Development
My training has been honestly totally self-taught, I can not deny that I learned a lot from the experiences with all the musicians with whom I share and I shared, in addition to the discs (Albums) that are my best schools; Drummers like Abe Cunningham from Deftones, Danny Carey of Tool, Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains, Brad Wilk of RATM, Chad Smith of Red Hot… Dave Grohl of Nirvana, Roger Taylor of Foo Fighters, Jose Pasillas of Incubus, Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, Philip Selway of Radiohead, Dominic Howard of Muse, Tre Cool of Green Day, Ben Gillies of Silverchair, Jimmy Chamberlin of The Smashing Pumpkins, Steve Smith to name a few have been great influences on what today represents my style.
I have received a good amount of honors and recognitions in some festivals nationwide as the best drummer in the Brahma festival among others… I used to be active (before to come to the USA) on the local and national scene with bands like Limpiacabezales, Pharmacy, Alegria Torin, John Guarenas (where I am a session musician), El Otro Borges, Comentarios de Pasillos, and Los Henry Zakka.
Today
Today I can find myself as a session drummer and composer, encompassing many styles, in many different scenarios and enjoying the current evolutionary process of drumming in general, the instrument, along with all the variety of new artists who are changing the way of play drums around the world; such as Benny Greb (which is my all-time favorite), Anika Nilles, Matt Garstka, Thomas Lang, Baard Kolstad, Charlie Engen, Syros Vaziri among others.
Bands like Animals as Leaders, Leprous, Scale the Summit and many more, a huge list exists today in such an interconnected world, channels like Drumeo among others, social networks obviously and of course the hidden wealth that keeps each country, a rather enriching cocktail. I’m also enjoying my adaptation process to a new culture as an inmigrant and the changes related to it, a package of new addons.
I’m starting working with Lu Freitas as a session drummer and in a few projects with other musicians as well.
